Tony Timmers

May 18, 1928 - April 27, 2018

Timmers, Anthony (Tony), in his 90th year, died peacefully at Lambton Meadoview Villa, Petrolia, on Friday, April 27, 2018 surrounded by his family. Tony was born May 18, 1928 in Boekel, Noord Brabant the Netherlands. Loving and entertaining husband for more than 62 years to Marie (VanHooft). Fun-loving dad to Betty Ann (Greg) Kerrigan, June (Brian) Hodges, Jim (Laureen) Timmers, Mike (Francis Cruz) Timmers, and Pat (Bev) Timmers. Best Opa ever, to Brent (Miriam), Jill (Bryan), Karla (Chris), Dale (Julie), Vicky (Adrian), Rich (Tara), Crystal (Adam), Gerard (Alana) and Alisha (Rob). Opa adored his many great-grandchildren. Tony was a brother to Dina (Nol) Emonds of Holland, Adrianus (Cathy) Timmers, Mary (Pete) VanderSanden, Frances Verboort, Toni (the late John) Kuenen, John (Anne) Timmers, and Andy (the late Helen) Timmers, brother-in-law to Adrian & Corry VanHooft, Anne (John) Timmers, Rose Kemis (Mike Levan), Jean Gerrits (the late Gerry) and sister-in-law, Rika Timmers. Predeceased by his parents, Johannus and Johanna Timmers, his brother Bill Timmers, his sister Helen (the late Karl) Peters, and brother and sisters-in-law, John (Betty) Vanhooft and Rita (the late John Hubers) Cornelissen. Tony liked to horse around and make bird calls and introduce himself as Tony Baloney. He had many titles: lawyer—laid down the law; employer—made sure a field of cucumbers kept us busy all summer; farmer—2 pigs, 1 cow and several chickens; housekeeper—every Saturday night he dragged us across mom’s freshly waxed floor to shine it up before Hockey Night in Canada; carpenter—built us a tree house, swing set and all our dressers; arborist—every week we chopped and carried wood to heat our house; gardener-dad and mom always had a huge garden that provided us with veggies for the whole year; landscaper—Tony’s lawn care in Oshawa; and comedian—he always kept laughter in our home. The words dad said to us most often were, “I Love You”. Our family would like to thank the wonderful, kindhearted caregivers at Lambton Meadowview Villa, as well as Dr. Susan Mather, for everything they have done for Tony’s quality of life in the past several years. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 18, 2018 at the Wyoming Chapel of Needham-Jay Funeral Home, 650 Broadway St. Wyoming. Interment in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
