Shirley Metcalfe (nee Duncan) of Petrolia, died peacefully surrounded by family, Friday October 30, 2020 at C.E.E. Hospital of Bluewater Health Petrolia, at the age of 85. Beloved wife of Don Metcalfe for over 67 years. Shirley will be lovingly remembered by her children, Terry (Jim) Willis, Mona (Alexander) Protas, Spencer (Deb) Metcalfe. She was a proud grandmother of Jason (Michelle) Robertson, Nadia Protas, Nusha Protas, Bronson (Giliane) Metcalfe, Zoey (Cole) Randall, Riley Metcalfe and Jayden Russell. Great grandmother to Elyssa (Austin) Black, Makenzie Robertson, Ronin Metcalfe, Ryker and Levi Randall. She is survived by her siblings, John (Holly) Duncan, Jackie (Sam) Kay and Rick (Cheska) Duncan. Sister-in-law, Leone Mater, Kathy Duncan and Alice Duncan. She is pre-deceased by her parents Frank and Gladys Duncan, her siblings Ken Duncan, Betty (Bill) Hackett, Don Duncan, Merlin (Ann) Duncan, Jean (Bob) McDonald, Ralph Duncan, Doug Duncan. Brother-in-law Jack (Kay)(Betty) Metcalfe and Doug (Mary)(Lorraine)Metcalfe. Pre-deceased by son-in-law Harley Robertson and grandson Joel. She is loved by many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family. Shirley’s commitment to her faith in Jesus was displayed in her love of life and enjoyment of it. She was known for her love of people and gracious hospitality, never sitting down while entertaining, she wanted everyone’s needs to be met. We all enjoyed her infectious laugh and quick wit. She had a varied career starting as a telephone operator for Bell Canada, worked at Crest Home Hardware, and Petrolia Topic. She was highly regarded in the advertising industry, having had a successful advertising business with Coffee Time News. She left her mark on many lives through her involvement as a Sunday school teacher, youth ministries and Christian Business Women, Stonecroft Canada , now known as RSVP Ministries. We would like to thank Dr. Li for his years of compassionate care towards Shirley, she was in constant praise of him. Gratitude to the Albany Retirement Village staff and their exceptional attention during these difficult Covid times. Thank you to the nursing staff at C.E.E. Hospital with special thanks to Marie, Kim and Bailey. We saw God’s care towards our family demonstrated through them. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. from Peoples Church, 3888 London Line, Wyoming. Visitors will be received prior to the service from 10:00 am to 10:45 am. The service will be livestreamed at facebook.com/NeedhamJay. Please note that masks/face coverings are mandatory and maximum visitors at one time and social distancing will be enforced. (A maximum of 180 will be allowed in the Church) The internment will be in Hillsdale Cemetery.
