David Vokes
December 21, 1963 - March 25, 2021
On Thursday, March 25, 2021, at home on his farm, surrounded by love, David Martin Vokes left this earthly realm for a better place. David was the beloved husband, partner, and best friend of Lori-Anne (nee Franz), and the proud, loving, and much-loved father of Allanah & Shannon (Kevin). David was born on December 21, 1963, in Petrolia, the youngest brother of Stephen (Marilyn), Lynn (honorary brother Ken) Smith, Robert (Janice), & Peter (Joy). Each of his nieces and nephews held a special place in his heart. He was the dear son-in-law of Anny Franz, and he will be greatly missed by his friends, family, and his loyal dog Phin. David was predeceased by his brother, Robert (1981), his mother, Dorothy (1990), his father, John (2000), and his sister-in-law, Rozelle (2015). David graduated from the University of Guelph in 1986 with a degree in Agriculture, majoring in Crop Science. Always an innovator, he became one of the first farmers to raise red deer in Ontario. He loved the land and took great pride in saying, “I farm with my brothers.” Visitors will be received in the afternoon on Friday, April 2, 2021 at the Needham-Jay Funeral Home Petrolia. Due to COVID-19 restrictions you must register in advance at https://signup.com/go/bNXMmNp. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at the Wyoming Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate in his memory to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank (foodgrainsbank.ca), the Bluewater Centre for Raptor Rehabilitation (www.raptorrehabilitation.com), or Lambton Wildlife (lambtonwildlife.com) and can be arranged by contacting the Needham-Jay Funeral Home www.needhamjay.com. “May your road be clear and your tunes be good.”
