Lorne (Tony) Hyde

It is with great sadness, that the family of LORNE (TONY) HYDE announces his passing at Fiddick’s Nursing Home, Petrolia, on Saturday, May 15, 2010 in his 93rd year. Tony was a long time resident of Goderich. Loving and caring husband for more than 60 years to the late Christina (2002). Wonderful father to Janet and Vern Gekill of Corunna. Cherished grandfather to Jacqueline and Jeremy Dwyer and great grandpa to Abigail. Brother of Hazel Ostranski and brother-in-law of Molly Hyde. Several nieces, great nieces, nephews and great nephews will miss their Uncle Tony. Tony was the son of the late William and Christina Hyde. He was predeceased by three brothers, one sister, one nephew, one great nephew and granddaughter, Lori. Lorne served his country during World War II. Tony worked in Stratford at the Chair Factory and then worked for over 36 years with the Canadian National Railway. Lorne was an active member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Goderich and was a Cub Leader, Elder and in a choir member. Tony took Lion’s Club Young Canada week off yearly to enjoy peewee hockey at its best, in his regular section at the arena. He enjoyed shuffleboard weekly at the church. Lorne will always be remembered for his gift of music and just loved singing. He shared this love of singing weekly going to nursing homes in the area with a group of singing friends. Visitors will be received on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the NEEDHAM-JAY FUNERAL HOME, Petrolia, where the funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Interment in St. Andrew’s Cemetery, North Easthope Twp., ON Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Lori Gekill Memorial Scholarship Fund or Knox Presbyterian Church, Goderich sound system.
