Suddenly, on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, SHIRLEY BANKS (nee Fowler), 72 years, of Petrolia. Shirley was the loving wife of John Banks. She will be deeply missed by her children Christopher and Elizabeth, her daughter-in-law Jean Marie Banks of Burlington and her son in-law Jim Shortt of Calgary. She was the beloved grandmother of Jacob, Kennedy, Madaleine, Zachery and Sidney. Dear sister of Betty Negri and Marilyn Brooks and sister in-law of Reto Negri and Peter Banks. She will be missed by nieces Heidi, Ericka, Stacey, Cindy, and Christa. Shirley was a 25 year member and current President of the Margaret Stokes Chapter of the IODE. She was the head Librarian at the Petrolia Library for 25 years, before retiring in 2003. She also worked at Sarnia General Hospital, Catalytic Construction, Holmes Foundry, Petrolia Advertiser Topic, and Living Message. She was also well known for being a member of the Petrolia Reading Club, her heirloom sewing, Irish crocheting, gardening, hosting home tours in Sarnia and in her own home in Petrolia, and her love of writing. Shirley was recipient of ‘Senior Citizen of the Year’ in Petrolia in 2007. She will be sadly missed by family and friends. Visitors will be received on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the NEEDHAM-JAY FUNERAL HOME, Petrolia, where the funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Interment in Hillsdale Cemetery, Petrolia.
