Fader, brothers-in-law Archie, Roy, and Vidal Fader. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Myrtle, children Bruce (Jan) Kelly of Burlington, Ontario and Joyce (Perry) Sinclair of Sherwood Park, Alberta, brother Stewart, sister-in-law Ruth, sisters-in-law Dorothy Fader and Freda Fader, grandchildren Scott (Alex) and Ryan, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cameron was born June 29, 1920 in New Glasgow, Ontario to William and Mabel Kelly. His father died suddenly in 1927 and he along with his younger brother, William Stewart, were raised by their mother and grandfather, Peter Ferguson in Appin attending school at SS No. 3 Ekfrid Township and later Glencoe High School. At an early age, Cameron acquired a keen knack for assembling and fixing any type of mechanical, electrical, and electronic gadgets. He sold radios as a teenager, mowed grass at the local cemetery, worked at a farm, worked for a beekeeper, as well as a butcher, and at the garage in Appin to make money. He went to the Radio College of Canada in Toronto, where he learned wireless telegraphy. Due to severe arthritis, he was not accepted in the Air Force in World War II, but he worked at the Galt Tool Company, as a machinist, making war materials. In 1945, he joined the CNR as a telegrapher, worked the spare board at several stations, before successfully bidding on the Wyoming station. When the Wyoming railroad station closed, Cameron completed his career at the Sarnia yard, retiring in 1981.
Cameron met his sweetheart, Myrtle Fader, one day when she was returning from her teaching job in Sarnia, They married in 1951, building their home on Brooke St. which they resided in until the fall of 2011.
Cameron’s talents attributed to him, along with local resident Glen Wilkins, Assembling in 1949, the first television set for the area. It was viewed by many locals at O’Brien’s Electric Store in Wyoming. Cameron would continue throughout his lifetime to innovate his own mechanical or electronic devices, any repair he could conquer. For a number of years he operated Kelly’s Repair Service for TV and radio. Cameron was a Scout master for the Boy Scouts for several years, mentoring many area boys. He was member of the Wyoming School Board, Lions Club, Steam Car Club and he also attended Althouse College, UWO, in London graduating in 1966 as a high school teacher, bur was told he was too old to teach, which he couldn’t understand as he was only 46, so he returned to his CNR job.
He was a fantastic father, caring and compassionate, instilling his patience and love for nature in his children, He was a gentleman’s man, he will always be remembered for unselfishness, always had a positive thing to say about everyone. His sense of humor and laughter was infectious, as he watched some of his favorite comedians from Laurel & Hardy to Red Skelton.
A service of remembrance will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. from the Wyoming Chapel, Broadway St., Wyoming. Rev. Wendy Millikin of Wyoming United Church officiating. Interment of Cameron’s cremated remains will be in Wyoming Cemetery.
