Again today I arrive at the Glengrove retreat.
Still work to be done. So much incomplete.
I see there's no waving and take a look around.
Outside? Downstairs? But you're, nowhere to be found.
In the yard, in the basement, it's you I hoped to meet.
But all I can find are the shoes for your feet.
Then, in my chest the sorrow starts to grow,
Dad, where are you? Do I have to let go?
There, it rips and tears into my heart.
Dad, I miss you so much. Where do I start?
You taught me courage and strength, plain to see.
Always bearing a love of the One and only Three.
You've shown me wisdom and faith, joys in this life,
Even as your body endured much strife.
By your action and example you've led me to be,
A man who holds true to the Word of the free.
Still, too soon you were taken to gold,
No chance was given to grow very old.
But there, forever, you'll always be,
Rejoicing and living, with no chemotherapy.
For me now remains no father of ground,
But up above, another waits to be sought and found.
